It is way more than just number crunching. I think people sometimes assume that working in government finance is about sitting at a desk and, you know, typing away and working on spreadsheets. And don't get me wrong, you can't get away from facts, figures, um, and all of the number data-driven side of things, but it's, it's, it's way more than that. Way, way more than just numbers.

One myth, which I have heard about the Government Finance Function and Civil Services as a whole, is that it is boring. This couldn't be any further from the truth. I've worked on items that I never thought in my life I'd get to work on and make a real difference to the public. My work remit is always changing. It keeps every day interesting. And the people that work in the Government Finance Function are all so fantastic and brilliant people to work with.

People might be surprised that working in government finance doesn't just mean having a role in HM Treasury. Every government department has a finance directorate and finance teams.
