Jill Transcript

My name is Jill. I'm Deputy Director of Finance for Financial Reporting, Data & Transformation in the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government.

Since coming to work in the Government Finance Function, the thing that's really struck me is how the people work together, lean on each other, support each other, and deliver something bigger than any of them could do individually.

There's a wealth of training materials, a wealth of networks to support and a wealth of events that you can go to and meet people and feel part of that community and feel supported.

It's really interesting and it gives me the opportunity to really feel that I'm making a difference to the future of the Civil Service functions, the future of the systems, the future of the data models.

The number I've chosen is 17.4 billion. It is a big number and it's a number from our financial statements of the department that I work in and it represents the help-to-buy portfolio, a scheme that actually is really vital in so many people's lives.

It has given hundreds of thousands of people access to secure housing, and that is a really, really important and significant thing. So I think this is adding huge value to society as a whole, and I think it's something that all of us who work in those areas should feel very proud of.

I've not been a Civil Servant for very long, but I've been very welcomed into the Civil Service, and I feel privileged to be a part of the team that delivers these services for the public.

The work that the department does improves the lives of people, and I'm extremely proud to call myself a Civil Servant.
