A welcome to the Government Finance Function from our members and leadership - Transcript

For me, the Government Finance Function is more than just numbers. It’s about people. I wanted to pursue this within the Civil Service because you want to make the change, you want to do something for the public.

When I got to know the Government Finance Function, I suddenly found a big family waiting for me there.

The thing that’s really struck me is how the people work together, lean on each other, support each other and deliver something bigger than any of them could do individually.

The Civil Service have a fantastic system of educating staff, either developing you within your role or looking to develop you in a different area that you might like to transition into.

There’s lots of opportunities, whether it’s learning through networking, attending conferences.

You’ll be working on things on a scale that is unrivalled elsewhere. It’s also being right at the cusp of current affairs of the day. Working with Ministers. There’s a real energy around that that you don’t get elsewhere.

It's a lot of responsibility, but it is actually very exciting because I know that everything I do matters.

We've got so many different problems to solve and so many different, like new things that are coming into view, whether it is artificial intelligence or how we're going to grow the economy.

There is no greater sense of purpose. You're not going to find a greater sense of purpose anywhere outside of public service.
